In the face of Violence
A Poem Honoring Women Who Have Endured Gender-Based Abuse
She walks with a heavy heart, her steps uncertain
Her mind a maze of questions, her spirit burning
Why do they hurt her, just because she's small?
Why do they take what they want, with no remorse at all?
She's a woman of power, with a heart of gold
Her voice a symphony, her touch warm and bold
But still they come, with their hands and their hate
Leaving her broken, her spirit erased
She cannot comprehend, this senseless attack
The cruelty inflicted, the wounds left in their wake
She wonders why they do it, what could make them so cruel?
What could make them think, that violence is their tool?
But still she rises, her strength a testament
To the power of women, who won't let this arrest
Their growth and their journey, to live in a world
Where they're safe and respected, where their rights are upheld
So she continues to fight, with her voice and her might
For a world where all women, are seen in the light
Where they're loved and protected, where they're free to be
And where they can walk, without fear of violence and tyranny.
