In nostrum exitium
“To our destruction”
We’ve been walking towards it for a while.
Each path in the right direction slicked over by ExxonMobil oil spills. Caring for tomorrow’s quality of life; cars, flights, meat, fashion. Further we move towards it.
Decades ago, it was percolating in the back of our minds, brought up over drinks around the fire; We’re doomed, ha.
We'd cheers, “to the end of the world!” Not realizing that the gap was closing
that, even then, laced up in our high-top kicks, we were walking towards it.
Even now, when we’ve sifted through our mistakes, we are still blind to how every inch mined is an inch dug into our own graves. We cling to cobalt filled iPhones and gold-gilded towers. False prophets of the age of information.
Yet some of us still preach a connection to a land we must hate.
Maybe it’d be for the best to run, not walk.
To let rest the darker side of free will and global indulgence, to tuck in and cross the finish line.
Because we’ve been walking towards it to the tempo of Earth’s long-drawn death rattle— in nostrum exitium.
