In My Youth
There was a time in my youth,
When within me I sought truth.
Various roads and paths I took,
Until alas, many fell aside, some I forsook.
It was in this time of discovery I waited,
And watched patiently and anticipated.
For a person in which faith overflowed,
A heart filled with grace, a face that glowed.
There was a time in my youth,
When I heard a kind voice that spoke the truth.
They stood afar off in the evening’s dimming light,
Whispering verses, I heard made things right.
Then time took its course renting fabric apart,
Piercing dreams, dimming eyes, crushing hearts.
Yet, in the passage of time between the two,
There remained feathers of memories to pursue.
In the fleeing time that remains to all,
May each savor whispers, and visions to recall.
In those moments emptied out of one’s soul,
May we find solace to calm and console.
There was a time in my youth,
When I remember promises bearing fruit.
But that time I wanted to see now passes me by,
Yet, I hold those moments within me as my heart sighs.
