I woke up this morning, still tangled in dreams

My feet on the ground, and my head in the trees

Vaguely aware I was caught in between

Something bazaar and reality

The skyline in the distance, was a faint shade of green

But seemed closer than not, if you know what I mean

Purple, pink clouds made the moment serene

It was like something in movies, that I’d never seen

Off to my left, behind a series of screens

I swear that I heard a peculiar scream

A monkey singing aloud for a scoop of ice cream

So hangry, he said, you don’t wanna see me get mean

So, from out of nowhere, this ice cream truck appears

And the driver looked odd, with his elephant ears

The sight of his face filled my eyes up with tears

I hadn’t felt this emotion in at least twenty years

I don’t know what it was, but I felt all verklempt

Like a sinner in church, I just sat there and wept

And then, my alarm, I don’t know where the time went

And what was that dream? What could it have meant?

I drug myself from the bed and turned on the shower

So invigorating, I was filled with a power

One that kept me smiling as the dream faded away

Though I was glad to find myself completely awake

As I walked to the car, looking down at my phone

I had a sensation that I wasn’t alone

As I glanced up, in the corner of my eye

I would have sworn I saw that ice cream man pass by

Instead of being alarmed, like I usually would have

I mumbled under my breath, “You don’t wanna see me get mad”

I grinned as he handed me a scoop of vanilla

As I walked away I thought, what a wonderful fella

It started to rain so I popped out my umbrella

I wonder what I’ll dream tonight, I guess you never can tell-a
