Impish Twins

By Linda SpackPublished 4 years ago • 1 min read

I woke and saw a sneaky pair

Peeking from behind the chair.

Having nothing to compare,

I doubted they were really there.

-

Then mom walked in and spoke to me,

Ignoring them completely.

Was she pretending not to see,

Or were they shadows, mentally?

-

Had I conjured them, fantastically?

Would they dance ‘round my bed gleefully?

Were they playmates, imaginatively?

Or sent to spy on me, purposefully?

-

I did not sense a friendly vibe;

This was not a game to prescribe,

Nor a prank, meme, joke or jibe.

They were clearly not from my tribe.

-

Mom acted like they weren’t there,

This hide & seek, menacing pair.

My bedroom had become their lair,

Without invitation or dare.

-

I could sense they had no good will,

But rather fear to instill.

Mom left and shut the door.

I will not tell you more.
