Imaginary Pals
A free verse poem about one of my ritualistic behaviours I’ve had since childhood
Listening to the same songs
and artists constantly
is like hanging out
with imaginary pals and family members
all day, all night, all week, all month
and all year.
Watching the same YouTube videos
with the same YouTubers
is like having a nice meal
with an imaginary pal
who I can actually mingle with
on the Internet.
Rereading my favourite stories
once in a blue moon
is like connecting
with old imaginary pals
I’ve not seen in a long time.
Playing the same digital games
I played during my youth
is like reliving old memories
and rekindling with old imaginary pals
I used to congregate and interact with virtually.
