If Tomorrow Never Came

And yesterday never was

If tomorrow never came

and yesterday never was

would today just be an illusion

that never gave us pause

If dreams were like a river

that carried us away

would we drift into the sunset

or a sunrise either way

If questions were like pennies

we threw into a fountain

would the answers find their way

to a wise man on a mountain

If the wind held all our secrets

that we kept inside our heart

would we chase after them

like fireflies in the dark

If “if’s” were just like wishes

that we wished on yesterday

would they end up in tomorrow

or the illusion of today
