If Only My Moments Were Oranges

A strange poem about the fickle nature of dreams

I could capture this moment

If moments were solid and physical

If they could be captured by a net or my hand

But moments are fleeting and passing, invisible

If only my moments were oranges

The juicy and sweet I hold onto

Pulpy nectar glazes my fingers

Plop each sliver into my mouth

A delicate bursting of flavor

Each moment I harness the juice and the taste

Let it linger on my tongue

Its tart sweetness mingles with tastebuds

Or rosebuds,

I can’t remember which one

The rotting and rank I let fall to the floor

No need to hold onto those anymore

They’re sour and pungent

And cause noses to crinkle and lips to frown

I’d rather let eyes fall closed and smile

But this moment is a sweet tangerine

Plump and ripe for capture

Maybe this time it will wor

If I could only think thoughts any

But I know once I wake

This
