If I Could Stay In October

I booked myself a one-way flight

to see fall’s colors in your eyes

October 1st, where seasons change

and magical connections wait, down colorful, leaf lanes

Blue -gray cobblestones hide neath crisp, copper leaves

and a golden glow, like fireflies, light up the city streets

Fiery fingerprints of crimson line the trees

October grins, welcomes you in and offers you a seat

The morning mist lingers, happily hesitating

inviting you to step into a life moving at a slower pace

An artistic palette splays a welcome home parade

and shadows slowly stretch like canvas, creating highlights in the trees

Then the frost comes riding in on autumn breezes

a cowboy stopping by, reminding you to deep breath, breathe

transforming life from green to rainbow schemes

coloring a memory from a once familiar dream

Yes. If only I could stay here, in October

I’d cancel all my plans and rearrange

Start with a brand new slate and gladly do it over

each visit, like the leaves, allowing you to make a change
