If I could only spend an hour

With a me that might have been

Would it feel like inheriting an heirloom

The way the bondage of my childhood

Links generation to generation

Like a fine chain?

Would I know the shape of my face

Without the channels carved by tears

The forcefully rearranged bone structure

The swallowed teeth and bitten tongue

Or would it feel like gazing into

A funhouse mirror?

Have I ever heard my voice

Without the gravel of the screams

There must have been a time before

I lost it in the darkness, right?

Who would she be if I were she?

Who would I be without

That woe that

Makes me

Me?

About the Creator

Maia Gadwall the metAlchemist

I fell in love with speculative fiction and poetry many years ago, but I have precious little time to write any. Then, I went crazy and started a cult called metAlchemy, or meta alchemy. I revere energy of all brands, esp. good, kind chaos.
