IF GOD CAME DOWN FROM HEAVEN

 **

If God came down from Heaven to walk amidst mankind,

I wonder just what He would think and all the things He’d find.

He gave us minds and ignorance so we would live in bliss.

We used both so erroneously and made a world like this.

 *

I’m sure He might be wondering if He’d made a big mistake

By giving us intelligence to make the things we make.

We made the guns, created bombs, we say to keep the peace.

Through scientific meddling we made our own disease.

 *

Now instead of using exploding bombs we kill with gas and germs.

I’m sure when God gave us our minds, it wasn’t this to learn.

If God came down from Heaven and saw the seeds He’d sown,

Would He walk away, disgusted while we practice how to clone?

 *

Creation is a gift from God we shouldn’t mock or scorn.

I fear that God must shed a tear with each new life that’s born.

“Will this child be My heart’s delight and keep My commanding law?

Or will this child manipulate a third horrific war?”

 *

It might have been much simpler if we didn’t have our minds,

Then instead of learning how to hate, our hearts would still be kind.

I think when Eden was created, God wanted to impart

Its beauty and its peacefulness inside every human heart.

 *

Alas, we didn’t listen to the words God had to say.

Now instead of walking with us, He might just turn away.

If God came down from Heaven would He find that we are worth

Saving and protecting?  Or would He destroy the earth?
