I Won’t Apologise
This is authentically me
I won’t apologise for my heart,
Nor will I apologise for showing it to the world,
I’ll allow the truth to unfold as it should,
And my authenticity to wander unfurled.
**
I won’t apologise for bleeding my sorrow,
Nor will I apologise for spreading my love,
Speaking my mind, opening my heart,
Leaving my doubts behind when push comes to shove.
**
I won’t apologise for spreading my thoughts,
Nor for emptying the spew that wraps my mind,
For sharing my ideas, writing of my pain,
Letting the world know and discover what I leave behind.
**
I won’t apologise for my mistakes,
Nor will I apologise for the laws of humanity I may have broken,
I’m just as human as the rest,
And I’ve lessons to learn, of which I’ve spoken.
**
I won’t apologise for the people I’ve discarded,
Nor for the one’s I’ve trusted by mistake,
At any given time I’ve done the best I could,
With the knowledge I had to partake.
**
I won’t apologise for how you choose to react,
Nor the beliefs you take from my words,
I wrote from the heart with no ill intention,
Letting my thoughts fly on the wings of the birds.
**
I won’t apologise for being authentically me,
For feeling, for being, for existing, for misgiving,
I attempt to tell my truth in all its ugliness,
And gift my love to the essence of living.

I won’t apologise for my complexity,
Nor my paradoxical simplicity,
I’ll hold tight to my deepest truth,
And honour my perfect eccentricity.
This poem was inspired by the words of this beautiful song sung by Courtney Hadwin.

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.

Wonderful piece!
Bold, brilliant & beautiful!!! Love it!!!💕❤️❤️
This was extremely powerful my friend! I loved it!
The two of us are so different, Colleen. My theme song is "Mr. Cellophane" from the musical "Chicago" which ends with an apology. Then again, I'm male, heterosexual, Christian & US citizen, so I guess I have several millennia of apologies to get out of my system.
Your stanza: I won’t apologise for how you choose to react, Nor the beliefs you take from my words, I wrote from the heart with no ill intention, Letting my thoughts fly on the wings of the birds. Colleen - enough said! Loved this poem, great job.❤️
