I Wish They Knew

A Poem

By Jay WilsonPublished 8 years ago • 1 min read

I wish they knew

The me inside

I wish they knew

Who I am

But they still assume

They know better

I wish they knew

My heart

In its cage

I wish they could see

The pain of the past

But they think my smile is real

They think my life will work

I’m sick of they

They and their words

They know better

They tell me so

They tell me to just

Be happy

Like that will work

But they know best

They are louder

Drowning my voice

I wish they knew

The me inside

I wish they’d listen

To my screaming

I’m trying to figure it all out

I wish

Oh I wish

To just be free
