I Wish I Could Paint

a poem

By Deborah MigneronPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

I wish I could paint

with a brush, I could rearrange the rainbow

each stroke a symbol

a painting is a painter’s poem

Sometimes there are no words

to describe the War within

Sometimes I combine paper with pen and end where I began;

the blank parchment mocks me

While the emotions continue to brew...

I need to use the grays and blacks and reds

to expose the demons in my head

to give them a face

Perhaps this is why I cannot paint.

If I expose them, then They are real

No longer a fairytale

like Folklore passed on through

generations of song

They do not want to be seen

For seeing is believing

And it is much more difficult to kill

when you do not know what you are aiming for

I wish I could paint

To give face to the enemy...

.... and to my friends...

The Angels send rays of pinks

and yellows and blues

light and happy hues

They send Hope

Splashes of Joy and Sunshine

Reminders that I am not alone

I would like to capture their messages

and place them in my pocket

or a locket

to keep them near

A reminder that there is still Beauty

in this World

I wish I could paint

To articulate when words escape

surreal poetry
