“I Was Never Asked to Stay”

So I stood there

“I Was Never Asked to Stay”

No one ever told me to leave—

but no one ever asked me to stay either.

So I stood there,

in the middle of almosts and maybes,

trying to understand

if silence meant goodbye.

I gave pieces of myself

like they were endless—

my time,

my patience,

my love

that didn’t know how to be small.

And still,

I felt like a visitor

in places I called home.

Funny, isn’t it?

How you can be present

and still feel invisible,

how you can love loudly

and still be unheard.

I waited—

not for grand gestures,

not for promises—

just for something simple:

a reason.

A reason to stay.

A reason to believe

I wasn’t just temporary.

But reasons never came.

Only distance.

Only quiet.

Only the slow realization

that I was holding on

to something

that had already let go of me.

So I did the only thing

I never thought I could—

I chose myself.

Not out of strength,

but out of exhaustion.

And maybe that’s what healing is—

not becoming fearless,

but finally getting tired

of being the only one who cares.

So I left.

Not because I wanted to,

but because staying

was breaking me

in ways no one could see.

And for the first time…

I didn’t look back.
