I’ve Slowed The Tide of Time

Never say never

My body is the vessel of earthly life,

The machine that quietly hums along,

Busy on auto pilot,

Strumming to its own tune,

As I take it for granted,

Until it throws a tantrum of epic proportions.

**

I regret not being kinder to it when I was young,

Living and breathing without a thought,

Bulletproof and indestructible,

Or so I believed,

Until I discovered it wasn’t.

**

The battle took over,

The struggle an uphill war,

And still my body was forgiving as only a selfless vessel can be.

**

When age began to creep in,

When the aches began to scream,

When the vessel I’d misused began to crumble,

Only then did I sit up and take notice,

In a time when I thought I’d left it too late.

**

But forgiveness has been sighted,

My hard work has been rewarded,

I hear the cheer,

The groans slightly silenced,

And a welcoming relief breathed in gratitude.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
