I Tossed a Penny Into a Wishing Well
Magical Wishes Came True

I Tossed a Penny Into a Wishing Well
I tossed a penny into a wishing well,
And listened as it tumbled down,
I heard a thousand tiny bells,
Beneath the sleeping town.
A silver light came floating up,
And whispered out my name,
It told me wishes still came true,
If hearts believed the same.
I wished to see my mother smile,
As she did long ago,
To hear her laughter once again,
And feel her loving glow.
The water danced with golden stars,
The moon began to glow,
And there she stood in Sunday best,
As she'd stood years ago.
She held my face between her hands,
And kissed away my tears,
She said she'd never really left,
Through all those lonely years.
I tried to hold her close to me,
But magic has its ways,
She vanished with the morning mist,
And left me brighter days.
I tossed another penny in,
And wished for childhood days,
The fields of buttercups and bees,
The old familiar ways.
And suddenly the world stood still,
The years began to turn,
I saw myself at seven years,
With lessons still to learn.
My father stood beside the gate,
His laughter filled the air,
The house was filled with happiness,
The kettle sang its song.
I wished that wars would disappear,
That hungry children ate,
That lonely souls would find a friend,
Before it was too late.
I wished that broken hearts could mend,
That kindness ruled the earth,
That every soul who felt unloved,
Would understand their worth.
The wishing well gave one last sigh,
My penny floated free,
A thousand little golden lights,
Came dancing over me.
