I Remember Her

(Asking For Weakness)

By Daniel BrownPublished 9 years ago • 1 min read

I remember her asking for weakness

For columns of men to punish her weight

Label her twig

Pencil

Straw

Something easily broken in a hand

Just as long as she was in a hand

I remember her begging for scars

Pining for kisses that taste sawtooth

Neck perforated for the right lips

When she was deprived of the serrated

Of the jagged

Knives replaced lips

And neck became wrist

With the same perforated line

I remember her searching for tough love

Paper plane seeking cinderblock runway

Must be willing to devour wings before landing

Must bury under scores of twigs and pencils and straws

Funeral not required but if possible

Open casket with sawtooth lips

And knives

And a perforated line to match

sad poetry
