I, pyrite merchant
chief of standing in the river
pushing stones upstream
pouncing on sunlight glitter
I, pyrite merchant
found gold in the sleet
afraid to test it with my teeth
sold it in the street
I, pyrite merchant
told you come to me for more
but when you next returned
I wasn’t at the store
