I once loved a flower so much I forgot to water my own
I didn't notice my petals curling, while you were overgrown
I poured every drop I had into you, maybe I should have known
That sunflowers are a selfish thing, leaving their friends alone
It took losing my color to see how much I’ve given away
So now im stuck to the ground and can no longer run and play
I shouldn’t have protected you while I stayed in the shade
You left me feeling sad and brown, with a heart that felt betrayed
But even wilting things can rise again with the right kind of care
I’ll be a new kind of sunflower, the kind some call rare
And when I’m finally at the stop maybe I'll look back and stare
You can no longer hurt me, my petals dance through the air
I deserve to grow without shrinking like a spell
I’m finally the bright sunflower and can be myself and not anyone else
