I of the Storm

Where eye can see clearly

in the heart of the tempest

where the wind howls its fury

I close my eyes

and see only stillness

the quiet

that binds like glue

spirals of grey clouds churn

but I stand at the core

a solitary willow

branches thrashing

roots deeper than the chaos

rumbling around me

furious skies roar

clamoring for my attention

but inside my lungs

the air sits tranquil

fluid breaths between

electric flashes of lightning

and drumbeats of thunder

I am the pause

before the waves crash

on the jagged spine of shores

the eye of the storm

creates clarity

not despite the debris

but because of it

no, I am not untouched

for I am the storm, too

the calm and the chaos

twisting, dancing

to the same rhythm

unity in the duality

I listen to my soul's silence

my pulse syncing up to the Earth's

while cyclones swirl around me

a frozen kind of motion

action and reaction

as one seamless dance

every storm must pass eventually

like the eternal cycle

of the seasons

and in their wake

i kneel

proud, humble,

unchanged and static,

yet forever moved
