I Never Knew Until Today

Red

By MelissaPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

Red

Like fire

Step into the light

Days past

Would have chose another

But I know now

It has always been

Red

Red that devours

And delivers

Our greatest fears

Red that burns

And consumes

Red that does not know how to contain itself

and if it did likely wouldn't anyway

Red

Many cannot stare it in the eye

Many have been burned by it

Comforted

by it

And brushed away by it

By it's protective need to be cold

Many have desired it

To learn the taste of it

To run

From it's consuming

Hold

No solitude in red

Only running flight

The fragrant ash spells burning light

But we can never

get enough

And we

Can never

Extinguish

It's the irony of such

Because as we go further

And further

The surmounting flicker

Begins to die

We know that the rise is coming again

To catapult the next

Stake

Laced in

Fear

Disguised in

binding wire

But the beauty of it all is

You are free

red

You have always been

free

Now you just have to learn

This one address

It's everything

And here

You never have to hide

never have to

Disguise

Here

You can

forever

burn

Step into the light

red

Red

You are

the light.
