I miss my America,

The country I grew up in.

I miss my America,

A land that truly believed

That all men were created equal.

I miss my America,

A land where people were

Not embarrassed to go to church.

I miss my America,

A country where hard work

was valued over easy money.

I miss my America,

Where kids dreamed

Of becoming President of the United States,

And not an internet sensation.

I miss my America,

Where we marveled at

The beauty of the country,

And not the image on our screens.

I miss my America,

Where main street mattered

As much to the community as to commerce.

I miss my America,

Where we marveled at exploration and discovery

And knew we were great.

I miss my America,

Where our government cared more about its citizens

Than about their public image or own pockets.

I miss my America,

Where families mattered more

Than time or a dollar.

I miss my America.
