I MARRIED THE WIND ON THURSDAY
It was a windy day story to tell

I MARRIED THE WIND ON THURSDAY
I married the wind on Thursday,
He proposed beneath a tree,
He bent the branches down so low,
They curtseyed gracefully.
He never bought a diamond ring,
Or got down on one knee,
He blew a silver feather down,
And said it came from sea.
The church was full of empty chairs,
The clouds all gathered in,
The vicar lost his paperwork,
The moment we begin.
My veil flew up the chimney,
My flowers crossed the town,
A woman found my wedding shoe,
Three villages further down.
I tried to kiss my husband,
But he wouldn’t show his face,
He only wrapped himself around,
My shoulders like old lace.
We lived inside a little house,
Upon a lonely hill,
I did the talking every night,
For he could not sit still.
Sometimes he rattled all the doors,
And threw things from the shelf,
I shouted, “Will you pack that in,”
While arguing with myself.
But when my tears came falling,
And pain was in my bones,
He sang inside the chimney,
So I was not alone.
The years went by, I grew quite old,
My hair turned winter white,
But still he kissed my windowpane,
And held my hand at night.
One morning when my heart grew tired,
He lifted me above,
And carried me across the sky,
The wildest kind of love.
Some marry men of flesh and bone,
With promises that bend,
I married something I could feel,
Who loved me to the end.
