I'm Yours

Replay on the Island Mix

By Annette CamposPublished 5 years ago • 1 min read

Home is

A person, place, or thing.

It’s a noun

A word on the wall

Of a kindergarten classroom

Home is

Colored fairy lights

Hung warm on living room branches

The smell of pine sap

My first bike resting on its kick-stand

Beside the tree

Home is

Laying in a hammock with you

On the porch of that island bungalow

“I'm yours” seeping through the open window

Deeply knowing then

Drowning in the certainty that

I’m Yours

Home is

Sitting together at a table in Thailand

Beer with ice

Yatzee and people watching

And you always making friends

With a woman who peddled crafts

She shared our time and table

Welcome always

Home is

Walking through the door

Smelling comfort food cooking

It’s wrapping my arms around you

It’s resting my head on your broad back

Feeling you breathe me

Feeling you smile

your arms sliding over mine

Home is

A four-letter-word

It’s watching our friends

Settle down, get married

It’s watching you

settle down

Get married

Home is

The dream of us

Until I ripped out the seams

That held our hearts together

My pain too much for

Just me

Taking over

us

Smothering that sweet

hammock music

“I’m yours”

just a whisper

Breathing through the

palm trees of our past

Home is

Impossible to find

When it’s a heart that’s not your own

A place that you can’t own

Can’t open with a key

Home is

An idea

A memory

A feeling I had

Before I wandered the world

Two legs and half a heart

It’s where I dream of

Where I can still find you

In the airport where I last saw you

Your smile already missing me

Holding me as I walked away

Home is

Feeling my key slip smoothly into the lock

Turn easily

Finding the lights on and the table set

Finding you

Waiting

Holding out your hand

After so long a journey

Finally

Welcoming me
