I'm Taking Back My Smile
And returning all the tears
You slowly walked into my life
But you only stayed awhile,
When you walked on out again
You took with you my smile.
***
You whispered sweet nothings
But always acted super cool,
I thought I’d found my love
You knew you’d found a fool.
***
I wish that you’d let me know
You had no intentions to stay,
You dealt the deck of cards
In a game I could not play.
***
You led me to believe
Things for us were good,
Now you are telling me
That I misunderstood.
***
I only ask now for one more thing
Please bear with me awhile,
I’m returning all the tears you gave
And taking back my smile.

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
