I'm Not Done Yet

Tragedies

Life... it always begins somewhere.

A single breath, a first cry... A tiny hand wrapped around a finger, trusting a world it has never met.

This is how mine began and where it all fell apart.

Not all at once... No.

Disaster rarely arrives with resounding horns... it slips in quietly.

The hands that should have protected me became the hands that pushed me under. The mouths that promised loyalty learned to speak my name like a curse. The people who swore they loved me treated my trust like something cheap enough to spend and worthless enough to discard.

The men who saw kindness as weakness. Who mistook my silence for permission... Who took pieces of me they never had a right to touch and walked away believing they had won.

For years, I carried their crimes like they were my own. I wore shame stitched from wounds I didn't create.

I apologized for surviving... I shrank, I bent, and I broke.

I stopped asking for mercy. I stopped waiting for justice to arrive on someone else's schedule.

I gathered every lie, every betrayal, every bruise, and every sleepless night. Every tear shed in locked bathrooms and empty parking lots. Every moment I questioned my own worth because someone else lacked the decency to see it.

I built a throne from the wreckage. Not one of gold, one of truth. The kind that cannot be bought, manipulated, or buried.

One by one, the masks began to crack.

The little girl who trusted the world was gone.

I was sixteen and already convinced I would not survive my own life.

Every morning felt like a battle I had no strength left to fight. Every night ended with the same question: How much longer could I endure the pain before it swallowed me whole?

There was a time when I searched for escape at the bottom of a bottle... A time when I swallowed poison hoping it would quiet the ache.

A time when I carved my pain into my own skin because I didn't know where else to put it.

The world saw scars... What it never saw was the war.

The endless battle between surviving another day and surrendering to the darkness calling my name.

I never imagined I would live past sixteen... Not because I didn't want to live, but because I could imagine a life where the suffering ended.

And yet... It didn't.

It grew... Year after year. Wound after wound. Betrayal after betrayal.

The people who should have loved me left their fingerprints on every fracture...

Some through cruelty. Some through silence... and some by standing by and watching.

I learned early that monsters do not always hide beneath beds.

Sometimes they sit at dinner tables. Sometimes they share your blood. Sometimes they tell you they love you while teaching you how little you are worth.

Still, I endured.

Barely... By threads. By broken promises and prayers whispered into empty rooms.

Until the day God placed a small boy into my arms.

My son.

My greatest gift, my rescue, and my reason.

The first person who looked at me and saw neither my scars nor my failures... Only home.

He saved me without ever knowing he was doing it. Suddenly, my life was no longer my own. There was someone who needed me.

Someone worth fighting for... Someone I would walk through fire to protect. And so I did. Again and again.

Even when I stumbled, even when I failed... Even when I doubted myself...

I stood back up.

Because love is stronger than fear. And a mother's love can survive things that should have destroyed her.

They tried to silence me. God knows they tried.

They mocked my voice, questioned my truth, and dismissed my pain.

They hoped if they buried me beneath enough shame, enough lies, enough suffering... I would disappear.

But silence has a sound.

I know it well... I lived inside it for years.

Its echoes followed me through every dark night and every lonely morning.

And now? Now I am done living there.

I will speak.

I will speak because no one spoke for me. I will speak because children deserve protection. I will speak because broken people deserve to know they are not alone. I will speak because the truth deserves air.

The chains that bound me are rusting. The locks are breaking... The prison door is standing open, and I am walking out.

Not carrying hatred or vengeance... Not carrying the burden of becoming what hurt me... I leave those things at the feet of God.

For vengeance belongs to Him. Justice belongs to Him.

The final accounting belongs to Him. I do not need to destroy those who wounded me. I do not need to spend my life chasing repayment. I do not need to become their judge.

My story was never about their victory. It was always about my survival.

Now, at long last, my freedom.

Let them say what they will. Let them remember me however they choose.

I know who I am.

I am the woman who survived.

I am the mother who stayed.

I am the voice that finally rose from the silence and am no longer waiting for permission to be heard.
