I'm More Afraid

lyric...

By Julie O'Hara - Author, Poet and Spiritual WarriorPublished 5 months ago 1 min read

(Verse 1)

The silver frost begins to creep

Across the ledge where shadows sleep

A feathered weight against my chest

Invites the weary heart to rest.

I do not flinch from hollow eyes

Or wings that span the midnight skies

For there is mercy in the cold

A story quiet, true, and old.

(Chorus)

I’m more afraid of the living breath

Than the velvet sting of a holy death.

I’d rather sink in a celestial sea

Than face the ghost of what man can be.

Let the white light take me, let the spirit rise—

I’m terrified of the look in human eyes.

(Verse 2)

The iron fist, the hollow vow

The way they build to break it now

A thousand blades behind a smile

That stretches for a jagged mile.

The angel offers a silent hand

A map back to the sunless land

No hunger there, no thirst, no lie

Just the vast and open, aching sky.

(Chorus)

I’m more afraid of the living breath

Than the velvet sting of a holy death.

I’d rather sink in a celestial sea

Than face the ghost of what man can be.

Let the white light take me, let the spirit rise—

I’m terrified of the look in human eyes.

(Bridge)

In the garden of the bone and breath

We’ve made a monster out of death.

But the reaper is a kinder king

Than the poison that the brothers bring.

One takes the soul to set it free

The other chains it to the knee.

(Guitar Solo / Ethereal Humming)

(Outro)

Lay me down in the drift of down

Far from the noise of the weeping town.

Enfold me in the ancient grace

Away from the reach of the human race.

I’m not afraid of the end of time...

Just the climb.

Just the climb.
