in the end

we are all gonna die

so why play pretend

with hello and goodbye

living in the shadows

accepting shallow lives

praying for tomorrow

before this one slips by

we gravitate to people

who live outside the lines

forgetting to be real

to ourselves in real time

grapple with the guilt

that occupies our minds

keeping us ensnared

and tangled up in vines

the ones that once grew roses

that we smelled on our way by

are now trampled under foot

while we gather them and cry

set upon a tombstone

trying to make up for lost time

I suppose they'd wish those flowers

would have arrived, before they died
