I Loved A Welsh Man
A love wasn’t meant to be, he loved the valley more that me

I Loved A Welsh Man
I loved a Welsh man,
his heart was so free,
his voice held the valleys,
his eyes held the sea.
He spoke of the mountains,
the rain and the snow,
and farms in the valleys
where Welsh farmers grow.
We spent happy hours
by the seaside in Rhyl,
I hear his old laughter,
and always I will.
He held my hand gently,
as waves kissed the shore,
I knew in that moment
I wanted no more.
Oh Wales, I still love
your rich shades of green,
and all of the beauty
my young eyes had seen.
But more than the castles,
the rivers and rain,
I loved one Welsh man
who still calls my name.
Perhaps he remembers
those days by the sea,
perhaps all those moments
meant more just to me.
The years became strangers,
our footprints were gone,
but deep in my memory
his love carried on.
I walk now in Wales,
though it’s not my land,
and sometimes I fancy
he still holds my hand.
I loved a Welsh man,
that love had to end,
but Wales kept our secret,
my lover, my friend.
