Don't Turn Around

yeah, I know you're there

it seems you've always been

like a softly whispered prayer

or the devil’s wanting sin

just beyond my grasp

kept away out of sight

like a hallowed mask

the shadows hide in the night

goosebumps arise marking the place

where your warm breath resides

though I can't see your face

I still feel you here beside

so I dare not turn around

for fear of what I might see

every single sound

feels just inches from me

so intense I can taste it

the copper fills up the air

and matches every heartbeat

until it’s too much to bear

my heart races like horses

left waiting at the gate

as my heart beats, blood courses

through my veins like ghost bait

then morning arises

like a savior, saving the day

till the night reveals its surprises

and there, you patiently wait
