I Know the Facts

My inner critic is lying

I Know the Facts

You told me I’m not good enough
That everything I do is a mistake

Dug your sharp nails of dirt into my skin
And told me I was stuck here forever
That it won’t get better

Closed the gate and hid the key
I tried to escape

But you threw rocks at me when I was on the ground
Laughed at me when I cried
The echo grew louder in my mind

You showed me the world wasn’t real
You told me to give up

I was forced to the bottom with mud in my eyes
But one day the mud became dry
I cried because I could see
And I realized you’re not real to me

You show up when you think I need you to put me down
You make me cry at times

I still feel like everything you say is valid
You think I’ll come back when I’m at my lowest again

But I have proof
I am enough
Everything I do is not a mistake
Everything I do is growth

You might have damaged me once
For years even
But there was no proof of your truth

I trusted you
You made me feel worse about myself

You may try to come back
But I know the facts
