i held my hand on your shoulder
Because I knew that was all I had.
I held my hand on your shoulder
At our last team meeting.
I was casual about it
My other hand
On the knee beside me,
Belonging to a girl whose
Name I don’t remember
And body i did not try
as hard as I could
Not to memorize,
While your shoulder is still molded
To fit my hand.
I held my hand on your shoulder
As you sat beneath me
Waiting for the ground
To collapse beneath us,
An escape we were not granted
and a destiny of termination
We could not fight.
Paths that were meant to be traveled
But we took recklessly.
I held my hand on your shoulder
Because I knew that’s all I had
I could not hold onto you
Forever.
But I find myself wondering
Does your shoulder still feel
The weight of my palm?
