I Give Them Their Release

Stream of consciousness...what was I saying now...poem

Sometimes

I sit down to write

And nothing comes out

So I sit

and wait

To see

If

inspiration takes hold.

When -

as is often the case,

it doesn't

I simply write

the first thing that comes to mind

and see where that takes me

Then delete

Then rewrite the same line

Then add another

And another

Then delete it all again

Just because...it has to be right...

Then

I come back to it later

and repeat the process

Write the same thing down again

Other times

it comes out all backwards

Often times

it's just what I'm thinking

A rhyme or reason...

I don't really have

Sometimes a word or phrase

or a full verse

Sometimes a concept, idea or

just sheer insanity

Regardless of the start

These words need their out,

I give them their release.

Then...

Then I have calm

For a while...

Until the process

Starts again.

Oh, I related to this one so much! Sometimes they just need to come out even if it's a struggle to get it down. Great work capturing these feelings as they come.

  • Beautifully expressed. I can relate.

  • I do feel like that while waiting certain pieces of mine. Loved your poem!

Nice one, Paul. This was a great way to describe the process and how it’s almost like we don’t have a choice but to give it release at some point.
