I don’t know that girl;

with her future planned all out;

A degree, a husband; kids, and success

She had no other route.

I don’t know that girl;

Who’s potential, you could not doubt.

All A’s, early admission too;

Yet still, she would drop out.

The future that she had always planned;

quickly slipped away.

Dreaming, just a waste of time;

Much to her dismay.

Surrounded by success she was;

A reminder, that she was not.

The potential still inside of her,

Would never just come out

An invisible disease inside she had,

But could never really bare;

A voice always reminding her,

that no one truly cared.

No place for her to be herself,

Somewhere she’d know her worth.

If so she had not found it yet,

At least not here on earth.

I don’t know that girl;

who always had a smile.

Tears have now replaced them,

That girl was in denial.

All those dreams are now, just in the past;

never coming close.

The life I thought, I would one day have,

I’ll never get to boast.

Still thankful for everything Ive got,

the life I imagined slipped away.

Still the blessings that I have right now;

hopefully will stay.
