I burned a bay leaf for luck

What a mess my everything has gone

I burned a bay leaf for luck

I lit a bay leaf,

chasing money’s kiss,

flavored it with honey,

thought I couldn’t miss.

But flames grew wild,

my house caught fire—

now I wander,

dreams expired.

Homeless as a field mouse,

lost in the night,

searching for shelter,

grasping for light.

Memories haunt me,

warmth turned cold,

echoes of laughter,

now I feel old.

Each corner I turn,

shadows whisper,

a ghost of my past,

fading faster.

In sheltered rooms,

my luck has run dry,

no fires to burn,

just wondering why.

Never again will I burn a bay,

the cost of my choices,

led my dreams astray.
