I am the snare

lost in the tangle

I lost my wallet

Where's my keys

Help me find my cell phone please

Missed the deadline

Stood up my friend

Sorry to be late again

If it wasn't attached,

my grandpa said,

Surely you would lose your head

My head is here

but not my mind

Unattached and unconfined

It flitters, floats,

evades distress

Yet equally hides from success

I hunt myself

Straining to see

The ghost of all that I might be

I am the snare,

my bait regret--

And I am the empty net

I am the breeze

that swirls the sand

In patterns I can't understand

Perhaps half-here

is all I've got

But can I love the me I'm not?

Every trap

I ever set

Hooks something that I soon forget

I am the tangle

and the catch

the White Queen and the Bandersnatch

I love: my husband and children; all who claim me as family or friend; the first bite of chocolate; the last blue before sunset; solving puzzles; stroking cats; finding myself by writing; losing myself in reading; the Creator who is love.
