I Am Thankful

A beautiful soul

That hug,

Will be remembered,

I didn’t want to say goodbye,

But I am thankful to have met you.

**

Hours later,

And yet I still sit in disbelief,

Was I worthy of such kindness?

Such open-hearted generosity — I think not!

**

But don’t get me wrong,

I appreciated your gesture,

And can only hope that one day,

Yes, one day we’ll meet again — I dream!

**

We need more people like you in this world,

People who open their hearts,

Who spontaneously open their arms,

Like you opened to me — the unworthy one.

**

That hug,

Was unexpected,

A total surprise,

A welcome, heart-melting connection.

**

Thank you,

From my heart to yours,

A rare connection,

A rare connection indeed.

**

That awesome hug!

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.

    We need more of this.

  • The old song immediately comes to mind, "Sara, Sara, storms are brewing..." but your kindness will linger forever. Bless you. (I am remembering her name correctly, aren't I? Dang poor short term memory!)

Wow, that tugged on my heart. I remembered every sad farewell, leaving my parents, my children going off. Friends I may not see again.
