a poem for pride

I am petrol

I am iridescence

The contrapuntal flipside of the rainbow

My myriad of blues and green

They soak up light

Then swirl and vanish

Indefinable extra-ordinary tones

Beyond the normal understanding

I am petrol head

Roar power in hot leather

Straddling a DOHC valvetrain mass

To talk the torque

And ride the road

No flies on me bud

(Left alive that is)

I am Petrel, rider on the storm

Ranging seabird on the wing

Swooping close above the waves

Feeling spume soak in my breast

Freer than the oceans breadth

Rapt in raptures

Plunged in depth.

I am petrol

Turquoise, aqua, green, cyan

I am, they say, the cool end of the spectrum…

…But I would like to prove them wrong

Spark with me, and light my fire?
