Dearest You,

Are You nobody too?

I remember it was Your favorite.

Waxing poetic by the light of the moon,

Me reading You lines in a darkened room.

*

Shadows cast across Your face,

Smile creases brightened in the corners,

Each new word a foreigner

greeting You as if for the first time,

Despite the familliar rhyme -

Defying reason with our nightly ritual

as the moon waned habitual.

*

There was a pair of Us, You know.

How dreary it is now, to be Somebody!

Without you, i am nobody.

Where are you?

This epistolary was inspired by the Emily Dickinson poem "I'm Nobody! Who are you?":

I’m Nobody! Who are you?

Are you – Nobody – too?

Then there’s a pair of us!

Don't tell! they'd advertise – you know!

How dreary – to be – Somebody!

How public – like a Frog –

To tell one’s name – the livelong June –

To an admiring Bog!
