I AM ME.

A poem about identity

I am me

Who am I?

What is “me”?

The person I am

Or the one I want to be

We try so hard to fit in

And by trying to be “everybody”

We forget the person we are within

To define yourself nowadays

Can be the hardest task you are given

So if some of you disagree

I must be forgiven

For those of you who think you know me

The “me” you might think you see

Is deeper than the deepest sea

Who am I?

What is “me”?

“Me” is a DNA code

“Me” is a genetic crossroad

“Me” is a perfect mix of black and white

As perfect as this “me” can be

“Me” is the flaws I choose to embrace

“Me” is my history

And all of my mistakes

What defines you is what you love

It is not how much

But it is how you do

Two people can love the same thing

But they will not love it the same way

Just as we can love our parents

But do not tell them everyday

It is all in the way we see the world

And how we chose to live our lives

I am what I love

And that is a lot

I love my dog

Although I don’t walk him everyday

I love my dad

Even though he went away

I love my mom

However sometimes I push her away

I love my friends

Despite the fact that they don’t always see things my way

I love all of these things

But yet it is something I don’t always show or say

I love the animals

I love the earth

I love to watch nature give birth

And although it is not always good to me

I love to see life evolve around me

I love to dream

I love to create

My mind is like a bottomless crate

Endless imagination

Endless possibilities

Sometimes dreaming overcomes my highest priorities

I think a lot

Maybe too much

If I am quiet, I am not mad

If I am crying, I am not sad

Everyone has to cry sooner or later

Just like everyone has to die when their time is over

We synchronise our lives

To the ticking of the hands of time

But yet we do not realize

That we are chasing the impossible

“Try to catch me if you can!

For I am the one to control the life of Man”

Time is slipping and we keep running

The ones who can’t keep up are the ones we leave behind

Time keeps slipping and we keep running

But we never think of stopping

To take some time for thinking

This battle of the odds is the survival of the fittest

Survival of the fittest and the length of my “To do” list
