Dick Tracey wants her name.
Pulled from the dark.
Examined in the light.
Give everyone a woman to point at.
Men want to know
why she went to a frat house,
why she drank tequila.
They don't understand they're really asking:
Why did she trust a man?
Now they need to make her a lesson.
Make her a warning.
Make her the one who ruined lives.
So I expose myself.
I am Jane Doe.
I am Jane Doe
walking to my car,
keys between my fingers.
I am Jane Doe
telling a friend where I am going,
texting if I get there.
I am Jane Doe
being asked
if I said, "no,"
if I fought.
I am Jane Doe
when his future
needs protecting,
not accountability.
When his life
is worth saving
and mine is
disposable.
When everyone is asking
if I really want to do this to him;
no one asking
what this has done to me.
I am Jane Doe.
Your mother is Jane Doe.
Your wife is Jane Doe.
Your daughter is Jane Doe.
The woman who hasn't told anyone is Jane Doe.
The woman who told everyone is Jane Doe.
The woman this is happening to right now is Jane Doe.
We are all Jane Doe.
Not because we know her story.
Because we've all been asked
what we did wrong.
No need to search for a name.
I give you mine.
I am Tina Lopez.

Tina D. Lopez
Finally realizing I need to start acting like the main character in my own life. Writing helps me figure out where I keep losing the plot and giving away my spotlight. My story is a big mix of drama, comedy, tragedy, thriller, and, horror.
