I am an addict.

Pill bottles spilling with images in my head.

I am a slave to the voices

That eat away at my brain like acid

The claws that grasp my heart

And squelch the blood within

And drinking from my palms

Rivers of sweet poison water.

I am nothing without the things that consume me.

I am dependent on the embrace

Of my devils that I refuse to part from

Because their darkness is my light.

They tell me pretty little lies

Color the world in a stark shade of black

So I stumble when I walk

It is my dance.

I have learned to fill my lungs with air

And stand very still

Because I do not know what it is like

To have room to breathe.

Bloodshot eyes

Sleepless nights.

Once I touch a hand

I cannot live without it.

Events and people and places

Run circles in my mind.

Circles.

I am an addict.

I wonder why when I say that

It brings light to my eyes.
