Humbled By His Existence

Lucky to be alive

The day was a special one, held dear within his heart,

A day for family, a day for love, a day for fun,

But he lives a solitary existence, a lonely ride,

With only the love of a single one.

**

Does he wallow in the sadness?

No, he trusts the universe will fulfil his heart all the same.

**

He takes great joy in whistling in tune with the chorus of the birds,

As they preen outside his window in the morn,

Together they greet the day as the sun begins to rise,

Singing of the beauty of the new dawn.

**

Does he feel sorry that he is alone?

No, he trusts the universe know’s what he needs.

**

He walks the rainforest trail, spying the fighting kangaroos,

Laughing at their antics as they fill him with joy,

He gazes in awe as the slithering python hunts its next meal,

Intrigued as he has been since he was just a boy.

**

Does he cry tears of loneliness?

No, he trusts the universe will never give him more than he can handle.

**

He tells his secrets to the night,

Laughs at the jokes he hears from the moon,

The stars wink playfully at his hysteria,

And he falls asleep to their whispering tune.

**

Does he fear his future of solitude?

No, he trusts the universe to honour his way.

**

He dreams of success and happiness,

His for the taking in his nightly ride,

He trials every possibility, exploring his potential,

Fearing nothing, he has no reason to hide.

**

Does he berate himself for the little he has?

No, he trusts the universe to shelter him through the storms.

**

He loves life, humbled to be given another day,

Practicing mindfulness, knowing every minute could be the last,

He may be alone but his heart is full,

And truly, to him, life is a blast!

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
