From the tip of my crown

To the connectors of my double helix

I am made up of many tones

worldly spices flavour my prefix

A varied foundation

Both of my parents borne a spectrum of nations

From those Black and Brown that were limited

As the Red was stolen from

Where Orange and Yellow had opened doors

And White built complex, too steep to afford.

My ancestors fought for love, for freedom

Understanding the weight of our world

Colour interwoven like a symphony

As the generational painting unfurls

We accepted our humbled vocations

Nurturing the rolling Greens of our lands

Farming nourishment for our community

Drinking in the deepened Blues of fluidity

Conditioned our children by the warmth of the sun

Imbedded with the knowledge of whence we had come

For the Purple honours the heirloom

Like Gold kisses the fruit of the tree

All these colours sustain us

Releasing our Indigo spirit free

This Rainbow represents us all

A testament to our resilience throughout the fall

In the unity of our nations

I am one of its children

From the cornucopia of colour that is our home

To the rainbow of my chromosome.
