How We Think We Should Think
Be you, and the rest will fall into place.
We’ve all been there — scrolling through social media and seeing the perfectly curated lives of others. The perfect body, the perfect career, the perfect relationship.
We can’t help but compare ourselves and often come up short. But here’s the thing — we’re all guilty of it.
We all have this idea in our heads of how we should think, feel, and act. But the truth is, there is no “should” when it comes to our thoughts and emotions.
We’re told that we should always think positively and push negative thoughts away. But the reality is, negative thoughts and emotions are a natural part of the human experience.
It’s okay to feel sad, angry, or frustrated. In fact, it’s healthy to acknowledge and process those emotions rather than sweep them under the rug.
As someone said,
“The only way out of the labyrinth of suffering is to forgive reality.”

The same goes for how we should act. Society often dictates how we should behave in certain situations. We’re told that we should always be polite, never speak out of turn, and always put on a happy face. But the truth is, sometimes it’s necessary to speak up, to be assertive, and to express our true feelings.
Take the example of Martin Luther King Jr, who, despite the societal pressure of the time, stood up for what he believed in, and spoke up against racial discrimination.
The bottom line is that we all have our own unique way of thinking and feeling, and that’s okay.
We don’t have to conform to the idea of how we should think or act. Embrace your individuality and allow yourself to feel and think in the way that comes naturally to you.
So next time you find yourself comparing yourself to others or feeling guilty for not conforming to society’s idea of “normal”, remember that there is no “should” when it comes to our thoughts and emotions.
Allow yourself to be you, and the rest will fall into place.
As the wise words of Ralph Waldo Emerson go,
“To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.”
