How to Make the Bed

Remember to wake up

after the longest

darkest

coldest

winter night

Crawl out from under

the blankets

that kept your

temperature

regulated,

warm

blood flowing

Do not reach for your phone

searching for images

that your friends

exist

without you,

that there was laughter and dancing,

music playing

while you were comatose

Go shit if you must

Wipe your ass

Wipe your tears

Wash your hands of it all

Don’t cut corners with the corners

Pull those sheets taut

Smooth the comforter

Fluff the pillows

Then leave your bedroom

The rest of the house

is waiting

for you

to live in it

again
