How healing is linked to seeing
Poetry and artwork
Grey or grim you say
It’s still light
It darkens, it’s oblique
It’s still light
It casts a shadow
And it is still light
The relief in darkness
Of no satisfaction
No frustration
Darkness easily found
Without love
Without connection
The relief from disappointment
Deadened senses
Numbness so numb
That knows only detachment
And pushed away
Friendships
Silence
No connection
No feeling detection
On purpose
Apart.
In this poem I have tried to show what it's like to be depressed and how at times depression protects one from difficult feelings often related to broken connections and relationships. The poem also brings hope into it - it relates to twinkles of light that appear in darkness. The two pieces of artwork are two photographs of my son taken by me almost in darkness in our local park next to a streetlamp. The differences in tonality and editing choices are there to show how healing is linked to seeing. The stronger I am, the clearer I can see.
