How Did it End up Here?
A pondering on the smallest things
I see a random stone on the edge of a road. The most thought I give is of moving it away. But how often would I think of how it got there in the first place?
It’s not just about one moment — the last moment — when whatever force moved it to that spot. It’s about the moment before that, when it was moved into the vicinity. And the moment before that, and before that… and before that.
It actually goes back longer than my lifetime, doesn’t it? And my parents’ lifetime, and my grandparents’s life time, on and on. For literally millions of years!
It most likely broke or was broken off from a boulder. So how was that boulder formed? And alllll of that… only to wind up as something I can kick away and forget about within an instant.
But it’s also an imposing mountain to an ant.
How did the ant get there? Now we can ask the question of tiny small living things.
How did one tiny minnow, swimming among many, find tiny me on that particular tiny beach on Cape Cod?
Maybe we’ll never know the full answer. 🗺️🌌
