Hot Pink

A Poem by Logan Inkanish

Plastic Flamingos, flocking in my trailer park

I’m talking ‘bout my friends, we’ve flown so far from Arkansas

We had to fly away, out west to California

We missed the Gold Rush, but it’s okay the weather’s warmer

Back home they pray to God, Out here we love our moon

I check my horoscope and hope good times are coming soon

And even if they don’t, I still think that’s okay

I’ll gather up the flock, the ocean’s just a drive away

I’ve got on fake couture, I’m hot like July fourth

And if I go back I’ll capture you and we’ll go north

But until that day, LA is where I’ll stay

I’m living on the beach and sipping vodka lemonades

//

I keep it hot pink like the summertime, the fast life keeps me alive

I need the sunshine like Hollywood needs stars to shine

Out here I’m sitting pretty, you’re grey in shades of fifty

I like his Jaguar, but damn I miss your F150

You’re in the country side, in a town with one stop light

I’m in a swimming pool with some rich man I met online

I keep it hot pink like the summertime

How is this my life?

I need the sunshine and I’m not leaving til I die
